Flip Bid Rules and Guidelines
Posted: Tue Nov 12, 2024 8:42 pm
12PM noon Friday 11/15 - 12PM noon Saturday 11/16: New opening flip bids may be placed on 4-star and 5-star signees. Each team may only open or place up bids in one flip bid thread, and no retractions will be allowed, so plan accordingly.
Timing exception: teams who have had their own player bid on will have 12 hours beyond the posting of receiving that bid to open or bid up their own flip bid. So a team whose player is bid on at 11:59 AM Saturday has until 11:59 PM Saturday to post a flip bid if desired.
Flip bid subject line should be formatted:
“FLIP WR Keith Rogers Tennessee 30 points”
with the body of the post as the premium the posting team is willing to pay to flip the player *in whole points only*
12AM midnight (12 hours after flip bids open): Bidding on 3-star recruits opens. Limited bid retractions will be allowed, only the first bid for a player may be retracted, and only by emailing the commissioner, so again, plan accordingly.
Flip bids work the same as regular bids, another team may enter into an existing flip bid thread as their one flip bid thread, and once a team has the high bid for 24 hours they will be the signing team. However, with flip bidding, the player’s original team has up to 24 hours following the lock in of the high flip bid, to choose whether or not to match the flip bid offer.
The original team has the option to keep the recruit signed, at an additional cost of half the bid premium, or allow the player to flip to the high bidder, in which case the high bid team pays the recruit’s original cost plus the full bid premium, and the player’s original team recoups the original cost plus half the bid premium.
If a team has their signed player bid on to flip to another team, knows they will not match the bid for their player, and wants to immediately free up points to be recouped to increase their points balance available to bid on 3-star recruits, or to use towards their one flip bid, they can post “will not match” on the flip bid thread and immediately use the points then guaranteed to be available to them towards making bids. As always, the player does not belong to the bidding team until they have the high bid post for 24 hours.
So, let’s say Washington has 50 points left Friday at noon and posts
“FLIP WR Keith Rogers Tennessee 30 points” 10 points
If Tennessee has 5 points (half the flip bid) they are able to match. But, if another team bids 20 points, Tennessee could post “will not match,” and then have 45 points immediately available (balance of 5 + recoup 30 points from Rogers recruitment + half the 20 point premium bid) to bid to flip another player or use to bid on remaining recruits. Points available would continue to increase at a rate of half the flip bid premium in the event it subsequently increases due to further bids.
Only teams that signed at least one 4-star or 5-star player that recruiting season may post flip bids.
Points used to post flip bids will be tied up on those bids while they are pending and cannot be used to bid on players available at the time. Having points allocated for possible flip bids may tie up points that could be used to bid on available players. Given that there is a 24 hour period before the highest flip bid stands, and then the signed team for the player has as many as 24 hours to match the flip bid, the time where those points may be tied up in this process could be more than 48-72 or more hours.
Timing exception: teams who have had their own player bid on will have 12 hours beyond the posting of receiving that bid to open or bid up their own flip bid. So a team whose player is bid on at 11:59 AM Saturday has until 11:59 PM Saturday to post a flip bid if desired.
