Rule Proposal: Points compensation for releases to transfer portal

This would only be allowed in the offseason when 5-star, 4-star, and 3-star recruiting is occurring. The proposed idea is that we compensate teams 1 point for each player they release to the transfer portal DURING recruitment only. This means when 3-star bidding is done, no more compensation allowed.
Argument for this is that it mimics reality. Recently QB Nico Iamaleava was acquired by UCLA from Tennessee in real life through the transfer portal because Tennessee couldn't afford his NIL price. UCLA could. With Nico leaving Tennessee they have freed up NIL (basically getting points) while UCLA has taken on the expense of that NIL (spent points).

This suggestion would make things more realistic, at the cost of being more complicated. I could go either way on it. I think .5 points for each player released would be more appropriate. Tennessee needed to let Nico go, it seems to me it was addition by subtraction.

Given that even some 3-star players will sign for more than 1 point, reflecting that signed players have more value than the players teams would release, I think an even point for the released players make sense. I would say this should only be available while teams are actively bidding on players, which I think is what Steve means by what he proposed.
For example, if a team released 2 players into the transfer portal, during recruiting, that will NEVER play for that team, and have less value than some recruits available, that team would get 2 points and then have a total of 102 instead of 100 to spend that season in recruiting.

Now, thinking of the Nico situation, here is an even more radical version of this concept. I am not proposing this or endorsing the idea, but simply offering it. For those who want realism and seeing situations like the Nico Iamaleava case happening more in the future.
A team could release into he transfer portal, at any time, a player and receive back the points used to sign that player (this make more sense during recruiting) and get those points, then the released player can be bid on my any human coached teams with he bidding starting at 1 point.
Or this could also be allowed only during recruiting.

Maybe instead of the full points, they get the player’s star value. If you release a 4-star player, you get 4 points. And the minimum bid on this player becomes 4 points. If you release a 5-star player, you get 5 points. And the minimum bid on this player becomes 5 points. No compensation for walk-ons or 1st season players who were never given a star rating. And these releases for compensation must happen right before recruitment (not during) to make it easier to track.

I’m fine with Steve’s initial proposal although I agree with Justin it should be half a point reward. I think the released player should then be available to be bid on during 3 star recruiting.

How about this idea to keep it simple and workable:
1. Players can be released for one half point or HALF the points they signed for, whichever is higher. We could limit a team to 5-7 such releases per season.
2. The window for such releases is the 24 hours immediately before 5-star recruiting opens ONLY. This forces teams to plan ahead. Players released are added to the recruiting board.
3. Teams can release players otherwise at other times but will not be compensated with points for those releases.
I think, at most, only 3-stars or lesser players will be released.

If we go this route, it should be half the points they end up signing for (after they are released), not half the points they originally signed for (back in the day.)
It should be based on current market value.

Good point, Nico signed with Tennessee for 2.4 million but is believed to be getting 1.5-1.75 million from UCLA. So if a players signed for 10 points is released, then the winning bid is 6 points, the releasing team gets 3 points.
